How’s the Lockdown going for you?

Is this you or are you loving it?

Another video created during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Any issue that arises in this situation is often just a condensed version of what we experience day to day.

The same principles apply.

At the time of writing, we are five and half weeks into being confined pretty much to home.

This will seem such a weird concept when we are looking back on it.

We may not remember how we spent our days.

It may be like looking back on school summer holidays and remembering it as sunny and fun every day.

Or perhaps the opposite.  

Either way, I hope that we remember the good changes that we’ve had to make and continue to implement them once it’s not mandatory.

The planet is loving that we aren’t traveling so much.

Less pollution from cars, ships, and planes.

Whilst everyone is loving seeing the planet have time to recover a little, I’m not so sure that holidays will be forfeited to keep it going!

We can but hope.

Negative thoughts are creeping in

Are your thoughts creating negative emotions?

Spending a lot of time alone can make your head hum.

If it starts to hum it will usually be down to one of two things:

  • Boredom
  • Unresolved issues

Whichever the reason, it can become quite difficult to cope with.

Your thoughts start going round in circles and get more and more intense.

What may have started as a small niggling issue gets blown out of all proportion and ends up feeling as though it’s going to swallow you whole.

I hope this video helps to shed some light and gives you a way forward.

Changing negative habits

Changing old habits can seem hard.

You’ve been doing it for so long that you can’t imagine being any other way.

It is possible to change

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a slog or an unpleasant experience to do so.

Are your relationships good?

Good or bad.

Every one of your relationships is meaningful.

Are your relationships good?

I’m sure that for a lot of us we have a least some relationships that aren’t running as smoothly as we’d like.

It can really get you down.

This relationship may be one with someone who is close to you.

Or someone who has influence over you, like your boss.

Or even someone with whom you come into contact but isn’t an associate of yours as such. Maybe a friend of a friend. Maybe your partners uncle who turns up at every family gathering.

So what’s this all about?

What’s the big deal about this relationship business?

Over 50 and loving it? Or not..

How are you finding your 50's?


For some it is a joyous time, but for others it's a challenge.


If female, you may be dealing with the menopause as well, which makes everything that much harder.


Indeed if you're male and your partner is going through the menopause it may well be having some effect on you. 


There are lots of reasons that we might find this age a challenge.

Are you nice?

Are you nice to everyone, or just everyone else?

Being truly nice to yourself can be a challenge....

How much do you put up with?

Not from other people but from yourself.

Does the voice inside you keep saying negative things that are making you miserable?

Sometimes there can be an incessant stream of negativity.

Stuff about yourself:

‘My friends always look so good. I look awful’

‘No-one’s coming to speak to me. No-one likes me.’

‘I wish I was interesting to talk to. Life would be fun then’

We even make stuff up:

‘I bet if I join that club I’ll be the outsider. I’ll be the one everyone laughs at’

‘I know what will happen if I go to that party. I’ll be stuck in the corner on my own’.

Why do we do that?

It’s almost as though we’re deliberately sabotaging our happiness.

In fact it’s not ‘almost as though’. You are sabotaging your happiness!

Why would you do that?

Why would you make sure that you don’t enjoy anything.

Ensure that you don’t feel good about yourself?

There are loads of reasons for this and it will be different for each of us.

It’s made up of things that we’ve experienced in life.

These experiences have ‘taught’ us that the negative things are fact.

Obviously the thoughts we have aren’t fact but that’s how it seems.

Imagine a life free from these negative thoughts.

How can you do that?

The first thing is to recognise when you’re having these thoughts and stop them.

‘I know what will happen if I go to that party. I’ll be stuck in the corner on my own’.

No!

‘I know when I turn up at that party that I will be fun, entertaining and good company. People will love talking to me.’

Change every negative around. Don’t listen to the voice.

Secondly, think about where the negative idea comes from.

You may realise that the idea came from one occasion 20 years ago when someone told you that you were boring.

When you recall that situation you remember that it was someone who was always putting you down. Someone who was always trying to show that they were better than you.

Realising this will also help you to realise that there was no truth in the put-downs.

They were things that person made up in order to try and feel better than you.

Having established that the fact that you are boring was in fact made up and not true, will help you to talk back to the voice in your head when it tries to scupper your fun and enjoyment of life.

Achieving your dream

You have to have a dream if you want it to come true.

Do you have a dream?

And is a dream the same as a goal?


That depends on what you do with it.


If your dream is something you use to entertain yourself on the bus on the way to work but never take any action on it then that is just a dream.


If you take that dream and apply some action to making it come true, then it becomes a goal.

I hope this video helps you clarify things around your dreams and goals.

Rest a while

The more we can cram into a day, the more righteous we feel

What about having a rest?

Is taking time out of your day to relax, a treat, a necessity or a very naughty thing to do?

It may feel a bit of each but let’s focus on the middle one: necessity.

It’s easy to get bogged down with stuff that we have to do on a daily basis.

If you relax, it means that something on your list will have to wait.

To take some time out can feel as though you’re cheating in some way.

The reality is that relaxation is necessary for your well being.

It also gives you renewed energy to be able to tackle everything else that you have to get done.

Have you ever found yourself staring at a job that needs doing without actually starting it?

You feel just as worn out after the long hard stare as if you’d carried out the task, but it remains undone.

Very often this can be because you’re feeling overwhelmed with all of the things that you’ve got to get done.

Or you’re tired from having been on the go for so long.

Either way you’d benefit from a break.

 Taking time out of your day, or week, to do something fun, or even to do absolutely nothing but rest, can be very beneficial.

Can you make time for yourself?

Can you find time to do whatever it is that makes you happy?

I’m guessing that you can make time, so the real question is, will you make time.

Will you?

Happiness, eh?

How much happiness do you have in your life?

Loads or not much?

Happiness can seem an elusive thing sometimes.

If you aren’t feeling as happy as you could be, what might be behind this?

Maybe you do feel happy but have a feeling that something is holding you back. Something is nipping at your heels all the time and upsetting your peace of mind.

If this is the case for you, do give it some thought.

What might be behind these feelings?

In order to be truly happy, we need to establish what is going on for us that is creating these negative feelings.

If there’s an area of your life that doesn’t feel good to you, can you change it?

Should you change it?

Will you change it?

As far as we know we only live once, so do you feel you should make this the best life possible?

Consider this in deciding whether to change a negative aspect of your life.
