Has your New Year started well?

Crystal Ball

This can be a brilliant and exciting time of year, or it can feel as though there's a big hill in front of us to climb.

The New Year can be a funny time.


Are you raring to go, full of plans and ideas?


Or are you someone for whom January certainly doesn't feel like the time to be setting goals and feel enthusiastic?


To be honest, the New Year doesn't mean much to me in terms of 'New Year New Start'.


I do find though that over Christmas I've generally had a little bit more time to stop and think.


The regular 'busy-ness' of my life changes. Probably still busy with things in the diary but its a different kind of busy. 


It feels  to me as though the world goes to sleep for a few days.

Most people are holed up in their homes. The streets are empty. There's not all the usual noise going on.


I find that relaxing.


This give me the chance to let my mind settle and to think. 


The act of doing that tends to bring forth ideas.


It wakes up dreams that I'd forgot I wanted to achieve.


Once everything goes back to normal after the festivities, I feel full of enthusiasm for the ideas I've been having. 


Maybe this can be for you too.


It's not necessarily about joining in with the New Year's Resolution hype.

It's about you.    

 

Do it for yourself,

 not just because it's New Year and everyone's at it.

What is happiness to you?

How do you know if you're happy?

Happiness will mean different things to all

of us

Would winning the lottery make you happy?

We can imagine that external things such as money can solve all of our problems but in reality we know that it won't.


Don't get me wrong, having lots of money can certainly help in a lot of ways but in the longer term I don't think it would make life happier.


More fun possibly. Maybe easier. But happier?


Happiness comes from within. 


If you don't feel that life is giving you what you need to be happy, take a good look at why and make the changes you need to.

How to get what you want

How can you do that?

Confidence Coach

It seems to be that there are people who always get what they want, and others who never get what they want.

Why is that? 

Why do some people seem to swan through life and for others it's an effort?


It isn't just luck. Sometimes luck might play a part but generally speaking it's more to do with you.


I love this: 'The harder I work the luckier I get'


How about:

'The more positive I am, the more things go my way'


I hope that this video rings some truth for you.

I hate change

My life isn't what it used to be!

And does that have to be a bad thing?

Things will inevitably change as time goes on.

Relationships change because we do as individuals.

Your ideal career when you first started out, may not hold the same appeal now; whether that was 10 years ago or 2 years ago.

What  you wanted at 16 or 25 may not be what you want at 30, let alone 20 years later.

The same can apply to every area of your life from your friends to your choice of holiday destination.

We all change.

Don’t be afraid of it!

Embrace it.

See it as the start of something new rather than the end of something old.

Just because it was old and familiar to you doesn't necessarily mean it was better.

View the change as the opportunity that it is! 

Every situation has opportunity even though it may not be immediately apparent.

Your initial negative reaction to something could just be fear of the unknown.

Look at how you’re feeling and ask yourself why?

Why are you feeling this way?

Is it really so bad for there to be this change?

Is it the detail of what’s changing that’s bothering you or simply the fact that change itself is happening?

Can you see some good, or some good opportunity in there?

If the change is something that you don't want, ask yourself whether it’s within your power to stop it happening

Maybe you will have to accept it.

In this case, think about how you can possibly turn it into a positive.

I do understand that this isn’t always an easy thing to do.

Not always easy to see HOW to turn it into a positive and when you have the idea, how to see it through.

But 'not easy' doesn't mean 'impossible'.

Look at the situation from a different perspective. Through the eyes of another.  This may help to give you some ideas for finding it easier to embrace the change.

So if an imminent change is bothering you, go through the thought process we done here and see what answers you come up with.

Your expectations determine your results

You have more control over your life than you realise!

Something as simple as how we view a situation can determine how it will play out.

How many times have you inadvertently scuppered your chances at something I wonder?

A negative outlook can be changed.

You can change your outlook just by being aware of it.

Conscious of it.

Mindful of it.

Maybe it goes deeper than this for you.

There may be something going on inside that's making you generally negative. Have a think about this and see whether you can unearth the root of it. 

If you find that it is not as simple as changing an old habit then do get int ouch for a chat and let's see how we can sort this out for you.

Feeling positive makes every day so much better!

What are you focusing on?

What do you focus on about yourself?​​​​

Is it the good bits or the bad bits?

Focus-on-confidence

If the bad bits, are they really bad or do they only appear bad to you?

What are your good points?

What do you most like about yourself?

What are you good at?

These are the things that you should think about, focus on, and feel confident about.

What do you wish you could do but can't?

What attributes do you wish you possessed, but don't?

The lack of theses things isn't a negative.

Recognising that you want them and haven't got them gives you a target to aim for. Something to work towards.

Go out there and make it happen!

Be the person that you want to be.

When we continuously focus on what we haven’t got, can’t do, or aren’t, we will feel dissatisfied, unhappy and lacking.

Focus on your good bits!

Do you really want to achieve it?

HOW BADLY DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS?

If you’re only prepared to put in half of the required effort, are you going to be happy with half of the results?

The expression that we get out what we put in is often quite true.

If you’re studying for an exam and only do half of the work, you might get lucky with the questions that come up but what is more likely is that you would achieve half of the grade that you might otherwise have done.

The same will apply to everything that we do.

Another expression that may be apt here is that if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.

So, what are you trying to achieve?

How much do you want the outcome to go your way?

Whether this is a relationship you are entering into, or trying to revive, or whether it’s an up-coming job interview, how badly do you want to succeed?

The level of effort put in may well be indicative of how much you want it.

However, there may be other factors at play.

Let’s say that you have an interview coming up and you don’t bother to make any preparations at all. You turn up with one minute to spare, dashing into the building and make it by the skin of your teeth.

Is this because you don’t particularly want the job?

Maybe.

Or it could be that deep down you don’t feel that you are good enough for it or worthy of it.

Whether it’s a job, a relationship, a business deal, or peace of mind, think about how much you want the outcome.

Then think about the effort that you are putting in to secure that outcome. Do they tally? If not, why not? If you need some help with this, please do get in contact to arrange for a free chat.

Can this Christmas be a happy one?

Christmas is amazing / awful! 

Which is it for you?

If the latter, have a look at why.

Not just the general feeling that it evokes but why, specifically.

Have a list of the specific reasons and address them one by one

You may not be able to get rid of them but you might be able to make them such that they won't seem such a negative.
