Relaxation does more than just feel good.

You may feel that taking time for yourself is self-indulgent and so in some way naughty.

It is, in fact, very important for all of us.

Recharging our batteries gives us more energy to put into all of our activities and ensures that we are able to stay focused, give everything our full attention, and not let things get on top of us.

We have all been in the situation where we know we haven’t done as good a job as we could, simply from being worn out, either physically, mentally or emotionally; be that at work, with the children, or in our relationships.

Time to relax, reflect and maybe re-assess things where necessary, is essential for all of us

The vehicle to do this will take different forms for everyone. 

Whatever it is for you, when you’ve given your mind a few hours (or days?) off and have had fun and relaxed, you will be more able to focus on tasks, make better decisions, and feel less stressed. This is important in everything that you do: business, socially, with the children, in relationships – everything.

For you, recharging may be spending a whole day strolling in the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Maybe it’s to have a massage or other relaxing treatment.

For some, it will be physical activity: a long bike ride or run, or maybe a trip to Alton Towers to go on the scary rides!

Whatever it is that relaxes your mind and body, don’t feel guilty about doing it. If you don’t look after yourself, you won’t be any good to other people that rely on you. You must metaphorically put your own oxygen mask on first.

Treat yourself and feel good about it – you deserve it!

If you have specific problems that are wearing you down, you may feel that you need more ‘time-out’ than normal. It is very wearing being worried or upset and so in order to feel relaxed and in control again, you will need to get those issues resolved.

Talk to a friend or colleague who might be able to help. Sometimes just talking about it will ease the pressure. It may help you put your issue in perspective and you’ll realise it’s not as big a deal as you had thought.

I’m always here to help if you need it, but otherwise, take time out for yourself, relax, and ENJOY IT!
