Are you worth it?

In short - yes you are!

You are worth your own attention and consideration.

Our days and diaries can get so full up with back to back tasks that it can feel overwhelming at times.  

Taking time for yourself, to have fun, to relax, or just to 'be' can feel self-indulgent and so in some way naughty.

It is, in fact, very important for all of us.

Recharging our batteries gives us more energy to put into all of our activities and ensures that we are able to stay focused, give everything our full attention, and not let things get on top of us.

We have all been in the situation where we know we haven’t done as good a job as we could, simply from being worn out, either physically, mentally or emotionally; be that at work, with the children, or in our relationships.

Time to relax, reflect and maybe re-assess things where necessary, is essential for all of us

The vehicle to do this will take different forms for everyone.

Giving your mind a few hours (or days?) off to have fun and relax, means that you'll be more able to focus on tasks, make better decisions, and feel less stressed.

This is important in everything that you do: business, socially, with the children, in relationships ...... everything.

For you, recharging may be spending a whole day river fishing in the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Maybe it’s to have a massage or other relaxing treatment.

Perhaps, is it physical activity: a long bike ride or run, or maybe a trip to Alton Towers to go on the scary rides!

Whatever it is that relaxes your mind and body, don’t feel guilty about spending the time doing it.

If you don’t look after yourself, you won’t be any good to other people that rely on you.

You must metaphorically put your own oxygen mask on first.

Treat yourself and feel good about it – you deserve it!

If you have specific problems that are wearing you down, you may feel that you need more ‘time-out’ than normal.

It is very wearing being worried or upset and so in order to feel relaxed and in control again, you will need to get those issues resolved.

Do appreciate how much energy it takes when yo're feeling in a negative state for whatever reason.

Be kind to yourself. Give yourself a break.

Talk to a friend or colleague who might be able to help. Sometimes just talking about it will ease the pressure. Not always but sometimes it may help you put your issue in perspective and you’ll realise it’s not as big a deal as you had thought.

It's very easy to dismiss our own needs.

We can feel as though we should be able to cope OK. We should be able to carry on and not 'make a fuss'.

If it was a friend or a loved one going through a hard time, we wouldn't hesitate to insist that they take some time off, or go and see someone to talk things through, or at the very least give themselves a treat such as mentioned above.

Give yourself the same love, attention and respect.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, unhappy or tired, pay attention to it.​
